In Australia, cosmetic injectable treatments involve prescription only (Schedule 4) medicines. These may only be prescribed by, and administered under the arrangements permitted for, appropriately registered health practitioners acting within their own scope of practice. Training does not create AHPRA registration and does not confer prescribing rights. ASI courses in cosmetic injectables and medical procedures are directed at registered health practitioners: medical practitioners, dentists, registered nurses and nurse practitioners. Skin, dermal and laser streams are also open to dermal clinicians and skin therapists, subject to the entry requirements for each course. Laser and IPL practice is regulated differently in each Australian state and territory. Some jurisdictions require a radiation safety licence or registration to operate cosmetic laser and IPL devices. Requirements should be confirmed with the relevant state or territory regulator. Entry requirements, and whether a particular course suits a given registration type, are confirmed by ASI at enrolment. Practitioners should also confirm scope, supervision and insurance requirements with their own regulator, professional indemnity insurer and employer before performing a new procedure. ## Certification and Accreditation ASI issues a certificate of attendance or completion on successful completion of an online course or hands on training. Course titles that include the words Diploma or Professional Certificate are ASI programme names. Whether any individual programme is an accredited qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework, and what recognition it carries, should be confirmed with ASI directly before enrolment. Continuing professional development accreditation is available on selected courses through The CPD Group.
